United Airlines has resumed its seasonal nonstop service between Newark Liberty International Airport and Nuuk, restoring the only direct service between Greenland and the United States operated by a U.S. airline.

The twice-weekly service returned over the weekend for its second summer season. Flights from Newark to Nuuk operate on Tuesdays and Saturdays until September 22, while return flights from Nuuk operate on Wednesdays and Sundays until September 23.
United told GreenlandEnergy.com that the route is performing in line with expectations.
Since launching the service in June 2025, the airline has carried more than 4,800 passengers on 58 flights between Greenland and the United States.
“We are excited to return to Nuuk for the 2026 summer season,” said Amit Badiani, Head of Africa and Offline Europe Sales at United Airlines.
“Our customers in Greenland will continue to benefit from a direct service between Nuuk and Newark/New York, as well as the possibility to seamlessly connect onwards via our Newark/New York hub to over 80 destinations across the Americas. We look forward to welcoming our customers on board.”

Direct access to the U.S. market
The return of the service provides an important connection for Greenland’s tourism sector, while also improving access for Greenlandic residents, business travelers and investors traveling between Greenland and the United States.
Newark Liberty International Airport is located approximately 23 kilometres from Manhattan and is United’s largest transatlantic gateway. During the 2026 summer season, United plans to serve more than 160 destinations in 48 countries from Newark.
René Von Ahm Laursen, Chief Commercial Officer at Greenland Airports, said the return of the service reflected growing interest in Greenland as a destination.
“We are delighted that United Airlines is resuming its summer service between Newark and Nuuk,” Laursen said.
“It reflects the strong and valued partnership we have built together, and it speaks to the growing interest in Greenland as a destination. At Greenland Airports, we are proud to open up new opportunities and help open the door for travelers from North America to experience the Arctic and the Greenlandic culture and nature.”

Twice-weekly service
The Newark-to-Nuuk flight departs at 11:20 a.m. local time and arrives in Nuuk at 6:45 p.m. The return flight leaves Nuuk at 9:45 a.m. and arrives in Newark at 11:20 a.m. local time.
United is operating the route using a Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft with 166 seats, including 16 United Premium Plus seats, 54 Economy Plus seats and 96 economy seats.
The Nuuk service is part of United’s wider summer schedule across the Atlantic. The airline plans to operate nearly 770 weekly transatlantic round trips during the 2026 summer season.
