Qaqortoq Meeting to Outline Danish Defense Opportunities for Greenland Businesses

Businesses in South Greenland will receive an introduction to becoming suppliers to the Danish defense sector at an October 27 meeting in Qaqortoq organized by Sulisitsisut, the Greenland Business Association.

The meeting at Café Kunnguaq will include a presentation by the Danish military and its Greenland/Arctic liaison, with the association’s board also attending.

Christian Keldsen of the Greenland Business Association told GreenlandEnergy.com that the presentation would focus on Danish defense activities under the Arctic capacity packages negotiated by Denmark’s government.

He described the session as a general introduction to becoming a defense supplier, with potential relevance for businesses in construction, services, and other sectors.

Keldsen emphasized that Greenlandic businesses bring considerable experience to this work. Companies and employees from Greenland have supported military installations in the country since the 1950s, he said.

For assignments beyond the capacity of individual businesses, the association expects partnerships to play an important role.

“We expect our local companies to partner up with other companies, both local and global, to increase capacity in cases where the assignments are too big for our businesses to handle by themselves,” Keldsen said.

He said assignments would be put out to tender under EU procurement schemes.

The presentation is intended to help businesses understand how to participate. Keldsen’s response did not identify individual contracts, contract values, or procurement timelines.

According to the association’s invitation, the meeting for GE Qaqortoq members is scheduled for Tuesday, October 27, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Café Kunnguaq. Space is limited, and organizers encourage prompt registration at aqqaluk@qam.gl.
