Pituffik Space Base in Greenland Seeks Virtual Firearms Training System for January 2027

The U.S. Space Force is seeking a virtual firearms training system for Pituffik Space Base, with delivery and installation required by January 22, 2027.

The official solicitation, published by the Department of the Air Force on July 24, calls for an InVeris FATS 100MIL system to support the 821st Security Forces Squadron, known as the Arctic Wolves, at Pituffik.

Quotations are due August 21, leaving approximately five months between the bidding deadline and required delivery. The successful supplier will be responsible for the complete system, transportation to Greenland, installation at the base and warranty coverage.

The specified package includes a single screen simulator, five simulated SIG M18 pistols, five M4 carbine simulators and simulated versions of the M249 Squad Automatic Weapon, M240B machine gun and M320A1 grenade launcher.

The system can train up to five personnel simultaneously in marksmanship exercises and as many as eight in judgmental video scenarios. It also allows instructors to create courses of fire and collective training scenarios.

One Year Assignments Shape Requirement

Security Forces personnel at Pituffik typically serve assignments lasting one year because of the base’s austere location. According to the Air Force, continuity and standardization are particularly important because Pituffik lacks longer term Security Forces assignments in which personnel could become familiar with and integrate a different training platform.

The FATS 100MIL is currently the preferred simulator across the Department of the Air Force Security Forces community. It serves as an interim standard while research continues into a possible joint military firearms simulation system.

The Air Force said the standardized platform supports consistent weapons training across active duty, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve units in the United States and overseas.

Competitive Quotes Expected

Although the solicitation requires the InVeris system by name, the Space Force expects competition among the manufacturer and licensed distributors.

Air Force market research identified at least two potential sources, including InVeris and a distributor. The justification states that as many as four distributors are licensed to resell the required configuration, allowing the Space Force to seek competitive pricing.

One logical potential supplier is Virginia Beach based ADS Inc., which markets the exact FATS 100MIL system and has previously supplied InVeris training equipment under U.S. military contracts.

In September 2024, ADS received a $775,782 Space Force purchase order for an InVeris firearms training simulator at Patrick Space Force Base in Florida.

Neither the Pituffik solicitation nor the justification document identifies prospective bidders, and ADS has not confirmed its participation.

Quotes close August 21. The winning supplier will then have less than five months to deliver and install the system for the Arctic Wolves at Pituffik.
