Naalakkersuisut Rejects Greenland Minerals Request to Extend Kuannersuit Exploration License

Naalakkersuisut said in a press release today that it has rejected Greenland Minerals A/S’s application to extend the permit period for the company’s exploration license at Kuannersuit.

The decision was made on 25 June 2026, and Greenland Minerals was informed on 26 June, according to the Ministry of Business and Mineral Resources.

The ministry said the application was rejected because further exploration in the area is not assessed as likely to lead to discoveries that could be extracted in accordance with Greenland’s uranium law.

The decision marks another setback for Greenland Minerals, the Greenlandic subsidiary of Australia’s Energy Transition Minerals, in the long running dispute over Kuannersuit, one of Greenland’s most controversial mineral projects.

Kuannersuit contains rare earth elements, but the project has remained politically and legally blocked because of its uranium content.

The latest refusal does not end the wider dispute between Greenland Minerals and Naalakkersuisut, but it further narrows the practical path forward for the project under Greenland’s current uranium policy.
