Greenland Energy Co has revised its planned 2026–2027 Jameson Land exploration campaign, concentrating the coming winter program on one exploration well rather than attempting to complete two wells during the same field season.
In a shareholder letter released Thursday, the Nasdaq listed company said the decision followed discussions involving Greenland Energy Co, joint venture partner 80 Mile and Greenlandic government officials.
According to the company, the parties concluded that focusing on a single well would provide the most responsible approach to the inaugural drilling campaign in the remote East Greenland basin.
Greenland Energy Co emphasized that the change was not driven by funding constraints. Instead, it said the narrower program would allow the project team to concentrate its resources on operational execution, environmental protection and safety in a challenging Arctic environment.
The second exploration well is expected to follow after the results and operational experience from the first well have been analyzed.
Greenland Energy Co said recent high-level meetings between project leadership and Greenlandic regulatory and oversight authorities had been constructive. However, the shareholder letter confirms that not all approvals required to begin drilling have yet been received.
80 Mile, as licensee of the Jameson Land joint venture, continues to lead the permitting process and engagement with Greenlandic authorities. Greenland Energy Co is supporting engineering, logistics, equipment procurement, contractor coordination, transportation planning and operational readiness.
The company argued that waiting until every approval had been issued before beginning logistical preparations could jeopardize the limited Arctic operating season.
The revised one well program may be more cautious than originally planned, but it also provides a clearer immediate objective: safely completing the first modern exploration well in the Jameson Land Basin and using its results to guide the next stage of drilling.
