Greenland Approves Tanbreez Mining and Closure Plans Through 2050

Critical Metals Corp. says Naalakkersuisut has approved the Mining Plan and Closure Plan for Tanbreez, the rare-earth project at Killavaat Alannguat between Narsaq and Qaqortoq.

In a press release the company said the plans were signed September 29 for Tanbreez Mining Greenland A/S and are valid through September 8, 2050. They sit alongside Tanbreez’s exploitation licence, granted in 2020.

The Mining Plan sets out how the company intends to build and operate the mine, processing facilities, port and supporting infrastructure. The Closure Plan covers how the site would be decommissioned and rehabilitated at the end of mining.

The approvals cover 19 elements, including the magnet rare earths neodymium, praseodymium, dysprosium and terbium, alongside tantalum, niobium, hafnium, samarium and yttrium, materials used in high-performance magnets, capacitors, semiconductor components, lasers and aerospace alloys.

Critical Metals Chairman and CEO Tony Sage called the decision “a defining milestone for Tanbreez” and said the company would now move forward with activity-specific operating permits.
