Critical Metals Puts Greenland Operator in Charge at Tanbreez After Control Shift

Critical Metals Corp. has appointed Thomas “Tyt” Mogensen as chief executive officer of Tanbreez Mining Greenland A/S, the Greenlandic operating entity behind the Killavaat Alannguat rare earth project in South Greenland. The move lands only days after Naalakkersuisut approved the indirect transfer that lifted CRML’s stake in Tanbreez to 92.5%, with European Lithium retaining the remaining 7.5%.

Critical Metals has spent April tightening its grip on Tanbreez and lining up the next phase of development. The ownership approval on April 17 removed a major structural hurdle. Putting Mogensen in charge of the Greenlandic company on April 20 points to a shift to in country execution.

A Greenland-facing operator steps in

Mogensen brings a background rooted in Greenland’s commercial and institutional landscape. Most recently, he served as managing director of Nalik Ventures A/S, the Naalakkersuisut-owned business development company. Earlier roles cited by the company include senior positions at BankNordik, NIRAS Greenland, Greenland Development A/S, and Royal Arctic Line.

This appointment also fits with Critical Metals’ broader push to build operating capacity around the project. In March, the company said it had entered into an agreement to acquire a majority stake in 60° North Greenland ApS, with a related collaboration agreement to support infrastructure and local operational capacity around Tanbreez. The transaction was described at the time as expected to close subject to customary conditions.

Critical Metals has also been laying out an aggressive development timeline. In March, the company approved a $30 million acceleration program aimed at expanding the resource base, advancing drilling and engineering work, and moving Tanbreez toward first ore production in late 2028 or early 2029, with concentrate export targeted for the third quarter of 2029.

Mogensen’s appointment places a Greenland connected operator at the head of the local company at the moment CRML is trying to convert ownership control into practical momentum on the ground.
